Planet Saving Architecture
Both Yoelson and I are very interested in green living. We would like to build our own home one day, it’s not that difficult, I don’t know why more people don’t self build. It causes me sleepless nights when I think of all of the polution caused by so many buildings in Britain, they are the equivalent of gas guzzling 4 x 4’s with sun roofs. What we need is lots more planet saving architecture, Yoelson and I have been storing some lovely big strong cardboard boxes, we will soon be living the green dream. Why don’t humans concentrate on the planet saving holy grail, building zero carbon emmision dwellings, we think the cardboard box is a good place to start. With energy prices set to double over the next 10-15 years, time is running out. Most buildings today are far bigger polluters than air travel, which puts things into perspective. Why is it that for example, people who drive 4×4 vehicles are considered a serious threat to the environment? What about HGV’s? We are more than happy to do our bit for the planet, such as recycling most of our household waste (papers, tins, cans, bottles etc), and we use low energy lightbulbs, and we wash clothes at a low temperature, we feel we do all of the recommended things, but why it is the man in the street (or Teddy Bear) that is being asked to save the planet? What about the polution caused by ‘big business’, why are they not being forced to help? Is it because the government would lose large amounts of revenue, and is it because the man in the street is the soft target, I think so. It feels as though European citizens are making a real effort to lower polution, which is good. But I don’t think it will be enough unless China and American, who cause substantially more damage to the environment than the whole of Europe combined, decide to make this issue their top priority, which I don’t think is likely. What people really need to do is stop building those awful new housing estates, and only build green from now on. It makes sense, they are cheaper to purchase and cheaper to run, what’s not to like? Most importantly these green buildings won’t aid the death of our planet. Speaking of recycling I think I will go and sort out another lot for the bottle bank. Maybe I will make Yoelson and I something to drink first, orange juice I think.
